What is Chemical Genomics?
Chemical Genomics, or Chemogenomics, use small molecules that are available to modify or disrupt the function or activity of specific proteins and biological processes. It is a powerful approach to observe not only the interaction, but also reversibility in real time. Chemical Genomics include two experimental approaches; Forward Chemical Genomics and Reverse Chemical Genomics. Bioactive chemicals resulting from forward or reverse chemical screens can be useful in understanding and dissecting complex biological processes due to the essentially limitless variation in structure and activities inherent in chemical space.

Iloprost phenacyl ester
|
Iloprost phenacyl ester is used to treat pulmonary hypertension. Iloprost inhibits the ADP, thrombin, and collagen-induced aggregation of human platelets. In whole animals, iloprost acts as a vasodilator, hypotensive, antidiuretic, and prolongs bleeding time. All of these properties help to antagonize the pathological changes that take place in the small pulmonary arteries of patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Analysis
Even though there is no cure for Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) yet, there are several treatments, including Iloprost phenacyl ester (Ventavis). Further research would bring more effective treatments for PAH.
